Man, 50, dies in house fire in Mountain Ash

Investigations are continuing after a 50-year-old man was found dead following a house fire in Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

South Wales Police and the fire service were called to the terraced property at 2056 BST on Sunday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene in Union Street.

A police spokesperson said they were not treating the fire as suspicious and confirmed that the fatality was not a firefighter.

Crews were alerted to the fire by a neighbour who dialled 999 after hearing the smoke alarm and smelling smoke outside the front door.

Two appliances from Aberdare and Abercynon attended.

Mick Flanagan of the fire crime and investigation unit at South Wales Fire service said: "A 50-year-old male was found by fire crews within the property and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

"The investigation by SWFRS and South Wales Police is due to start this afternoon and is expected to be completed today."
