Child abduction rumours dismissed by police

Reports of attempted child abductions have been dismissed as "rumours" by South Wales Police.

Posts on social networking sites claimed incidents had occurred in Bridgend and Margam.

Two girls were approached by two men in a silver car in the shopping area at Talbot Green, who offered them a lift. The girls, aged eight and 10, ran off and the men drove away.

But officers say "there have been no other incidents at all".

The incident on 16 May on Ely Valley Road has been described as "distressing" by Talbot Green Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Jeff Jones.

He said police school liaison officers have been in contact with local schools and high visibility patrols have been increased in the neighbourhood to reassure parents and pupils.

Witnesses are asked to call Sgt Jones at Talbot Green police station on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
