Motorcyclist killed in A465 Heads of the Valleys crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the Heads of the Valleys road.

Officers said a 69-year-old man from the Rhondda area was pronounced dead at the scene on the A465 between Hirwaun and Merthyr Tydfil.

The road was closed for five hours after the incident, which happened at around 1115 BST on Thursday.

Police said a police family liaison officer was supporting the next of kin and the coroner had been informed.

South Wales Police said the collision happened near the roundabout known locally as 'Baverstocks'.

The dead man was riding a red Honda motorcycle, and a dark coloured Vauxhall Zafira people carrier was also involved in the crash, said the force.

The car driver was unhurt.

Officers said they wanted to trace and speak to the occupants of a dark coloured 4x4 vehicle or people carrier, a white Mercedes Sprinter vehicle and a commercial 'tipper' type vehicle.

The force is also keen to heard from anyone who may have seen the vehicles being driven before the collision and who have not yet given their details.
