Woman found in sea off Barry at 5am airlifted to safety

A 30-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after she was found in the sea in the early hours of Sunday.

The coastguard in Swansea said the woman was winched to safety just after 0500 BST by an RAF rescue helicopter off Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

She was flown to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. Details of her condition have not been released.

She was found about 150m off shore in Whitmore Bay. Barry lifeboat and its coastguard team were also involved.
