An amateur darts player is celebrating winning £1m with a game of arrows - and then plans to take his wife on the honeymoon they never had.

Rail worker Mark Benbow, 38, of Merthyr Tydfil, won a EuroMillions raffle days before celebrating the second anniversary of his marriage to Lisa.

He said they had not been able to afford a honeymoon until now.

More immediately he plans to celebrate with his family and darts teammates at his local social club on Friday.

"We didn't get a chance to go away after we married because we couldn't afford it," he said.

"So the win will mean me and Lisa can finally have a honeymoon. We'd love to go to Rome."

'Can't go wild'

He said he had no plans to give up work but the couple, who live with their son and Mrs Benbow's two children from a previous relationship, may move to a bigger house.

Mr Benbow also has three children from a previous marriage.

"We're going to be staying in the Merthyr area, though. I was born here and brought up here. I still love it," he added.

"And I don't think the win will change me. I'm 38 years of age, I can't go wild with the money because it wouldn't last."

He joked: "I'll still be tight as ever."

But he said he would be putting on a free bar at their next darts match at the Guest Keen Memorial Social and Bowls Club in Dowlais.

He plays for the club alongside his father Anthony and younger brother Wayne.
