Woman's hospital airlift after car crash at Upper Boat

An elderly woman has been airlifted to hospital after being freed from a car by south Wales firefighters following a collision with a van.

The accident happened at 1335 BST on Gwaelod-y-Garth Road at Upper Boat, between Pontypridd and Cardiff.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the woman was freed from the vehicle using hydraulic equipment.

She was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Crews from Pontypridd attended the scene.
