Newport murder: Two more arrests bring total to 10

Two more people have been arrested after the death of a 60-year-old man in Newport, bringing the total to 10.

Police believe the man may have been run over after being assaulted in Broad Steet, Pill, early on Saturday.

The latest arrests are of a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man over suspected driving offences.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder, one of whom remains in custody, while four others were questioned about driving offences.

All of those arrested are from the Newport area.

Gwent Police have also been granted more time to question a 25-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Information appeal

A 19-year-old man and a 23-year old woman have been released on police bail pending further inquiries, while a 23-year-old woman has been released with no further action.

Four people - two men, aged 22 and 44, and two women aged 18 and 46 - were also arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless and inconsiderate driving and failure to report a road traffic collision and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The two latest arrests have been made on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the incident or who was in the Broad Street area between 02:00 and 04:00 BST on Saturday morning to contact them.
