The family of a 32-year-old man who died in a head-on collision on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road near Merthyr Tydfil have paid tribute.

Tomek Jankowski, who worked at the St Merryn Meat factory in Dowlais, lived in Gellideg with his wife and three-year-old son.

His red Vauxhall Vectra was involved in a collision with a Land Rover near Pant at 07:00 BST on Wednesday.

His family called him "a devoted husband and father".

"He worked hard at the St Merryn Factory and was always able to help people," his family said in a statement issued via police.

They said he was a well-liked member of the Polish community, who will be sadly missed by his family and friends in both Merthyr and Poland.

The Land Rover driver suffered multiple injuries and shock in the collision. His condition in hospital is not believed to be life-threatening.

The carriageway was closed for about six hours while police carried out initial investigations.

Officers from South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 02920 633438 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
