Woman rescued in Newport from mudbank near River Usk

A 26-year-old woman has been rescued from a muddy riverbank in the centre of Newport during the early hours.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident next to the River Usk near the Millennium footbridge, Kingsway.

Rescuers used inflatable walkways to reach the woman at 00:30 BST on Saturday.

Gwent Police said she was taken to the city's Royal Gwent Hospital suffering from minor injuries.
