Gwent Police hunt for convicted rapist Edwin Smith

Police in south Wales are appealing for help in their search for a convicted rapist.

Gwent Police said Edwin Smith, 43, from the Bargoed area of Caerphilly county, failed to appear in court at Newport on Tuesday.

In his absence he was convicted of 13 offences including rape, serious sexual assault and physical assault.

The public are advised not to approach him but to call 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Smith's convictions relate to incidents which occurred between 1985 and 2006, said the force.

He is described as white, approximately 5ft 10in (1.77m) tall, of medium build with bleach blond shoulder-length hair which was tied in a ponytail.
