Newport man injured in attack outside Cyprus disco

A 27-year-old man is in intensive care in Cyprus after being attacked while on holiday in Paphos, say Cypriot police.

The man, believed to be from Newport, south Wales, was with his brother when he was assaulted outside a disco.

Police were called to Saint Antonio Street in the town at about 03:20 GMT on Sunday.

The man was taken to Paphos General Hospital with head injuries, but was transferred to an intensive care unit at Nicosia hospital.

His brother, 24, was also taken to hospital in Paphos, but he is not seriously injured, police said.

Police in Cyprus are investigating, but said the two brothers were involved in an argument with five people in the car park.

A 24-year-old man, from Paphos, is being sought by police in connection with the incident.

Police have searched his family home, but he is believed to have travelled to Nicosia. Police said the other four people are being treated as witnesses.
