Fire damages former Top Hat nightclub in Cwmtillery

Fire crews have tackled a blaze at a former nightclub in Cwmtillery, Blaenau Gwent.

The alarm was raised at the Top Hat Club near Abertillery on Monday afternoon.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service officers will return to inspect the scene later on Tuesday morning.

Crews from Abertillery, Blaina and Brynmawr fought the blaze, and an aerial platform from Maindee, Newport, was also brought in.

Sir Tom Jones, who is originally from Treforest, Pontypridd, is believed to have been spotted at the club in the 1960s by his first manager before becoming an international star.
