Merthyr taxi death: police appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 26-year-old man died following a collision with a taxi on New Year's Eve in Merthyr Tydfil.

The man, named locally as Lee Foley, was injured in an incident at 22:10 GMT where the eastern by-pass meets Church Street. He later died in hospital.

Police said he'd been with a woman beforehand and was in collision with a black Vauxhall Astra estate taxi.

A police family liaison officer is assisting the man's family.

Police said they were anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the movements of the man or the taxi before the incident.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
