Police have been granted more time to question a motorist on suspicion of murdering a man who was hit by a car when he was on a Cardiff pavement.

Kyle Griffith, 25, died in hospital early on Tuesday after being struck by a blue Fiat Cinquecento.

A man, 22, from Pentwyn, was arrested on suspicious of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs and was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cardiff magistrates granted police a further 36 hours to question the man.

South Wales Police said the car collided with Mr Griffith at around 03:00 GMT on Tuesday, after failing to stop for a marked police vehicle in the centre of Cardiff.

Mr Griffith, who lived in Cardiff Bay, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he later died.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident in James Street or anyone who may have seen the P-registration car prior to the collision.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
