Two people had to be cut free by fire crews after a road crash near the A470 Abercynon roundabout in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The incident, which involved a car and a van, at about 07:00 GMT on Friday, caused delays after the A4059 was closed in both directions.

The Mountain Ash road later reopened between the roundabout and the B4257.

Three people were involved in the crash and the casualties were taken to hospital.

The incident caused long queues on the B4257 in both directions between the A4059 New Road towards Mountain Ash and the A4069 on the other side of Abercynon, as police directed motorists around the closed section.
