M4 crash: Man held after collision at J24 near Newport

A man has been arrested following a two-car collision which closed part of the M4 in south Wales.

He was held on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol after a Ford was in collision with a Toyota near the junction 24 exit road near Newport.

A woman driving the Toyota was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport as a precaution.

The collision, at 11:17 GMT on Saturday, caused delays for westbound motorists before the road reopened.

Traffic Wales said the motorway was closed for about 20 minutes and the exit slip road for another 20 minutes, leading to heavy traffic which later cleared.

Gwent Police said the collision blocked the carriageway so traffic was diverted.

The fire service said they had to cut free one motorist involved in the collision.

Early reports had suggested two people had been taken to hospital.
