Motorist hurt in crash with lorry on A48 near Pyle

An elderly motorist is in a serious condition with multiple injuries after a crash involving a lorry near Bridgend.

The incident happened near a cafe lay-by on the A48 at Pyle.

The 77-year-old man was driving a Mercedes which was in collision with a lorry and low loader trailer at 11:20 GMT on Saturday.

The man had to be freed by the fire service.

He was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

South Wales Police has appealed for witnesses after the crash, which closed the road for more than four hours.

The black Mercedes CLK 280 was travelling east from the Pyle roundabout in the direction of Stormy Down when it collided with the White Scania articulated lorry.

The 48-year-old lorry driver was uninjured.
