Firefighters rescue men from Stormy Down Quarry near Bridgend

Firefighters have rescued two men after they got into difficulties while swimming in a quarry.

The alarm was raised at Stormy Down Quarry, South Cornelly, near Bridgend, shortly after 15:00 BST on Saturday.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said three men were marooned on an island in the quarry and were unable to swim to safety.

One man managed to save himself, while fire crews used a boat and lines to rescue the other two.
