Cardiff Metropolitan University evacuated in gas incident

A university block was evacuated after a chemical incident in which staff complained of chest and throat irritation.

South Wales Fire Service said it was called to a suspected release of gas at Cardiff Metropolitan University's Llandaff campus just before 14:00 BST.

A chemical incidents team attended and is investigating.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said one possibility was that it was some kind of prank.

A spokesperson for the university said: "There have been a small number of staff working in T block who have complained of chest and throat irritations.

"As a precaution, T block has been evacuated and the chemical incidents team from south Wales fire and rescue is currently on site and investigating."

The fire service said the building had been ventilated by the time officers arrived at the scene.
