Pedestrian 'critical' after Monmouth road incident

A pedestrian is in a critical condition after a collision with a car while he crossed a main road in Monmouth on Saturday night.

The incident happened on the A40 northbound near the Wye Bridge at 18:45 GMT.

The 49-year-old man was taken to Nevill Hall in Abergavenny before being transferred to hospital in Cardiff.

Gwent Police has spoken to the driver and witnesses but has appealed for more information.

The force said the pedestrian was local and was trying to cross the A40 going into Monmouth town centre when the incident happened.

Gwent Police said anyone with more information, including motorists travelling southbound, should contact them on 101.
