Four hurt as serious crash shuts A48(M) in Cardiff

Four people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash on one of the main routes into Cardiff.

The A48(M) at St Mellons, in the east of the city, was closed westbound for four hours after the three-vehicle collision at 08:10 GMT on Thursday.

The eastbound carriageway was also shut while the air ambulance attended.

Police, the ambulance service and three fire crews were also at the scene. The road reopened at around 12:00 GMT.

Three people got themselves out of their vehicles before emergency services arrived but fire crews released one person using hydraulic cutting equipment.
