South Wales Police officers arrested in licensing probe

Two South Wales Police officers are among six people arrested as part of an investigation into the licensing of premises.

The male officers, an inspector and a constable, are both aged in their late 40s and work in the Cardiff area.

Both were released on police bail after their arrests on Monday. A woman and three other men were also questioned as part of the investigation.

The PC has been suspended on full pay and the inspector remains on duty.

The arrests were made after an investigation by the force's professional standards department.

Those arrested were:

  • A 47-year-old constable arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office and fraudulent evasion of income tax
  • A 48-year-old inspector arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice
  • A 47-year-old woman, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, arrested on suspicion of fraudulent evasion of income tax
  • A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office
  • A 51-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office
  • A 57-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice

All six have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

In a statement, the force said: "South Wales Police can confirm six individuals including two serving police officers have been arrested following an investigation by the force's professional standards department.

"The Independent Police Complaints Commission is supervising the investigation by South Wales Police."
