Gwent Police officer injured on way to crash in Newport

A Gwent Police officer has been injured after his vehicle was involved in a collision while on the way to another crash.

The officer has been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and a colleague is being cut out of the police BMW on the A467 near Rogerstone.

The police car collided with a Fiat Punto on the southbound carriageway.

It had been on the way to an earlier crash on the A467 between another Punto and a Hyundai.

The first collision was reported at 12:15 GMT and the woman driver of that Punto was also injured and taken to hospital in Newport.

The A467 was closed in both directions.
