Police appeal as crash injures four on A40 near Monmouth

Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash on the A40 near Monmouth injured four people.

Two cars - a black Ford Fiesta or Focus and a green Vauxhall Agila - collided, sending the Vauxhall down an embankment into trees.

Police said the other driver did not stop and was last seen heading into Monmouth.

The incident, near the Gibraltar Tunnels, happened at about midday on Saturday.

Police said the car which did not stop was driven by a white man, believed to be aged 20 to 30.

A woman passenger in the Vauxhall was airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries. The driver, a man in his 50s, and two children aged seven and 14, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The northbound A40 was closed and diversions were in place.

Witnesses are asked to call 101, quoting log 300 15/02/14.
