An 11-year-old golfer from Rhondda Cynon Taf got her third season off to the perfect start with a cup win at the Scottish Girls Under 16 Championships.

Ffion Tynan, the current European champion for girls of 10, won the Murray Donald & Caithness NETT Cup at the event in Perth.

She took on a 90-strong field of some of Europe's best young girl golfers.

Her father Andrew puts her success down to a natural ability and playing with a "smile on her face".

Her skill only came to light during a family holiday four years ago when she joined a junior golf camp.

"She loves it," said Mr Tynan, adding that her win last week starts the new season with 38 trophies to her name.

Ffion, who is coached by Wales' men's coach Neil Matthews, is to return to Scotland next month to try to defend her European crown.

Golf is not her only passion as Ffion is also a member of a local gymnastics club.
