The cause of a farm fire is under investigation, after a blaze in several buildings at a site in Monmouthshire.

The alarm was raised late on Saturday morning in Penallt, near Monmouth.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Monmouth, Chepstow and Cwmbran, while a water bowser was also called in from Ross-on-Wye.

Crews had to deal with gas bottles, timber and animal fodder after a barn went up in flames.

Andy Davidson from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We mobilised three fire engines and two water bowsers and the crews worked extremely hard to extinguish the fire.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation at the moment, but we are not looking at any suspicious circumstances."

The fire service said a member of the public raised the alarm after it appeared a small bonfire spread to neighbouring buildings.
