Gas is now being restored to most of the homes in Blaenau Gwent which have been without since Thursday following a water leak.

Supplies in Nantyglo were disrupted when water from a burst main leaked into gas pipes.

At 18:00 BST on Sunday, Wales and West Utilities said gas had started to be restored to about 660 of the 750 properties affected.

It has removed more than 150,000 litres of water from 10km of network.

It said it was still continuing to remove water from low points in the system.

A spokesperson said: "This continues to be a complex operation and we will continue to work round the clock to resolve this issue as safely and as quickly as we can."

Leisure centres in Abertillery and Ebbw Vale have been offering washing and showering facilities, but Abertillery's centre will be shut on Monday.

About 150 fan heaters and hot plates have been given out to vulnerable customers.

Tai Calon Community Housing has also distributed heaters and microwave ovens for affected tenants to use.

The company confirmed that all the properties affected were residential, with no commercial premises involved.
