Woman dies, five hurt in collision on A466 near Tintern

An elderly woman has died and five people have been taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the A466 near Tintern in Monmouthshire.

The crash just before midday involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a grey Opel Manta.

The woman who died was in the back of the Fiesta while the driver of the Manta has life-threatening injuries.

Four passengers in the two cars have neck and leg injuries. Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses.

All those injured were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment.

The Ford Fiesta was travelling south towards Chepstow and the Opel Manta was travelling north towards Monmouth.

The A466 is closed in both directions while emergency services are at the scene and the vehicles are recovered.

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101.
