Man injured after being hit by car

A man in his 50s has been seriously injured after he was hit by a car in Newport.

Firefighters were called to Aberthaw Road at the junction of Lliswery Road at about 17:50 GMT on Monday.

They provided initial first aid for the casualty before setting up emergency lighting for a doctor who treated the man at the scene.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed for a short period but has now re-opened.

Gwent Police said the driver of the gold Vauxhall Astra car was uninjured.

Officers from the Gwent Police Roads Policing Unit are investigating the collision, and anyone with information is asked to call 101.
