Attempted murder arrest as pair hurt at Beaufort Road, Newport

A man who was discovered injured along with a woman at a property in Newport has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers found the pair, who are thought to know each other, after being called at about 17:50 GMT on Thursday. They were taken to hospital.

The 54-year-old woman, who was initially described as critically injured, has been released.

The man is in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at the property in Beaufort Road in the St Julian's area of the city and are appealing for witnesses.
