Spending on agency workers by Cardiff council has been "significantly reduced" according to a snapshot internal audit.

Departments spent just over £1m in October 2014 but this was £347,000 less than in a previous monthly audit the year before.

The audit wanted assurances about value for money says a report to councillors.

Agency staff cost the environment department £357,000 in October - and £239,000 in sports and leisure.

The audit has sought assurances that the current levels of agency workers and expenditure "remained both necessary and sustainable and therefore provided the council with value for money".

The council is also looking at issues like council vehicles being used from home to work to make sure there is a business case and value for money.
