A pensioner has been critically injured after being hit by a black Peugeot Expert taxi in Cardiff city centre.

The collision happened on Greyfriars Road at about 15:15 GMT on Thursday as the woman crossed the road.

South Wales Police initially said a driver had been arrested, but now say this was not the case.

The 96-year-old was taken to the city's University Hospital of Wales and police said she remained there in a critical condition on Friday.

South Wales Police are particularly keen to trace four women who came to the aid of the crash victim.
