Tributes made to Cwmbran pensioner run over by his own car

Tributes have been paid to a 74-year-old Cwmbran man who was killed by his own car when it rolled back onto him after parking.

Reginald Gerald 'Gerry' Harper died on Thursday after being injured and knocked unconscious by the vehicle on Ponthir Road, Llanfrechfa.

Mr Harper's family said they were devastated by the sudden loss.

They said: "Gerry was a very popular character in the community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him."

Gwent Police said emergency services were called to the incident at about 14:40 GMT on 12 February.

Mr Harper was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where he died.

An investigation into his death is continuing.
