Council tax rise as Newport and Blaenau Gwent budgets set

Residents in Newport and Blaenau Gwent will see their council tax rise after councillors agreed their budgets for 2015/16.

Newport agreed a 5% increase while the rise in Blaenau Gwent is 2.6% - which could be one of the lowest in Wales and comes after a 4.6% hike was rejected.

The authority said it found the savings elsewhere in its £138m budget.

In Newport, councillors decided not to close its central library and art gallery as it set its £210m budget.
