A pioneering lifeboat, built by students in Wales in the 1960s, has cruised down the River Thames to launch a humanitarian boat-building project.

The inflatable lifeboat, called Naomi, designed at Atlantic College, Vale of Glamorgan, sailed from Battersea to Tower Bridge in London on Saturday.

The cruise was to launch the college's project to build a tsunami rescue boat for Japan.

It is hoped the boat will be ready by June.
