Firefighters have tackled a blaze at what is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in Wales.

The fire broke out in the chimney of the Old House Inn, Maesteg, which has a thatched roof.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the pub in Llangynwyd just after 10:45 GMT on Friday.

The fire, suspected to be accidental, is out and no injuries have been reported.

The pub hit the headlines in 2012 when the wife Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spent the day there.

Ann Romney is the granddaughter of David Davies, a coal miner from Nantyffyllon, who emigrated to the USA in the 1920s.

Mrs Romney's visit was broadcast on American TV.
