Thieves stole 700 loaves of bread during a robbery involving an "object similar to a handgun" in Newport.

A bakery driver was delivering in Blackett Avenue, Malpas, in the early hours of Monday when three black men in dark clothing approached his van.

One man, believed to be carrying a weapon, demanded he give them the vehicle.

He got out and the men made off with the white Luton-sized transit van with the registration plate KP62 LPX.

Police said the delivery driver, 38, from Ebbw Vale, was uninjured but shaken.
