Newport house gas explosion: Man still critical in hospital

A 50-year-old man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a gas explosion at a house in Newport.

The house in George Street had 11 people inside when the blast happened around 19:30 BST on Saturday.

Police and fire officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the blast, which was being treated as suspicious.

No other people people are being sought in connection with the blast.

A Wales and West Utilities expert said the explosion was linked to internal pipework within the house.

Gwent Police said no one else received major injuries in the incident.
