A man has been left in a critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Caerphilly county, police have said.

The man, from Crumlin, was hit on the A472 at Hafodyrynys at about 03:45 BST on Sunday.

He suffered serious injuries and is being treated at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.

Gwent Police said the driver of the vehicle, which was travelling from the Crumlin direction, might not have been aware of its part and left the scene.

Police have appealed for anyone driving along the A472 at that time who may have been involved, or any witnesses, to contact them.
