Couple in court after Joseph Smith, 5, died in Cardiff crash

A couple have appeared in court over the death of a five-year-old boy in a three-vehicle crash.

Joseph Smith died on Cardiff's Western Avenue in September 2015.

He had been travelling with his mother Laura Bright, 23, in a Ford Focus driven my step-dad Dean Collins, 22, from the St Mellons.

Both appeared before magistrates in the city to face charges relating to Joseph's death and will appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 14 June.

Mr Collins was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury.

Ms Bright was charged with causing the death of a child in her care.
