Minor injuries to pupils in Pembrokeshire bus collision

A school bus carrying 39 pupils crashed in Pembrokeshire, with a small number of children sustaining minor injuries.

The bus was going to Ysgol y Preseli, Crymych, when it collided with a hedge in an attempt to avoid a collision with a vehicle, said Pembrokeshire council.

The incident happened on the A478 at 0815 BST on the Burton Bend between Cardigan and Penybryn.

The driver of a car was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is being held by police in Aberystwyth.

The bus became lodged against trees, and pupils had to get out through the emergency exit.

Three members of school staff were following the bus at the time of the incident, and they all stopped to help pupils leave the vehicle.

An officer from Pembrokeshire County Council's transport unit was assisting police inquiries at the scene of the accident.

Sixeteen pupils were taken to school after the collision, while the remainder contacted their parents from the scene and were taken home directly.

Most of the pupils who went on to school later chose to go home, and staff members continued to monitor and support the pupils who chose to stay at school.
