Coastguards say they fear a fisherman has drowned as he was lost overboard off the Pembrokeshire coast.

A search involving three lifeboats, a helicopter and 14 other vessels was launched after the man, from Latvia, was reported missing at 0821 BST.

His boat was returning to Milford Haven when the two other crew members on board noticed he was missing.

The search has now been called off and coastguards say had he been wearing a life jacket he may have been found.

The man was on board a fishing boat registered at the port called About Time.

Coastguard rescue teams from Dale and Broad Haven along with the Angle and St David's RNLI lifeboats and inshore lifeboat were involved.

A rescue helicopter was also called and Milford Haven Coastguards broadcast a mayday appeal for assistance from other vessels in an area around Skomer Island.

Watch Manager Nigel Yelland said: "An extensive search has been undertaken by many vessels in the hope of finding this missing fisherman.

"Unfortunately, he was not wearing a life jacket, which could have aided in his survivability in this incident."
