Tenby trapped girls summon lifeboat on Facebook

Two girls trapped on rocks on the Pembrokeshire coast were rescued by lifeboat after raising the alarm on Facebook.

Tenby RNLI said volunteer Ross Edwards was online on Sunday and spotted their message on the social networking site.

He instructed the girls, trapped on rocks near Waterwynch Bay, Tenby, to call Milford Haven Coastguard.

"It was pure coincidence that one of our volunteer crew was on Facebook," said Phil John of Tenby RNLI.

Milford Haven Coastguard said it called out the Tenby inshore RNLI lifeboat after received a call from the girls at 16:00 GMT.

The lifeboat crew found the girls "cold but otherwise unhurt" the coastguard said.

"We would never encourage people to rely on this method, but to call 999 and call the coastguard should they ever find themselves in trouble," said Mr John.

"This was certainly an unusual scenario for us, we never want to see a situation where people delay calling for help."
