Kiosk fire at Singleton Park, Swansea, 'is suspicious'

Police say they are treating a fire which destroyed a food and drinks kiosk at Singleton Park in Swansea as suspicious.

The building next to the Swiss Cottage was burnt down in the blaze, which started shortly before 03:00 GMT.

Fire crews used jets and hose reels to tackle the flames, and left the scene at around 05:00 GMT.

The fire is the third at the park in the last 18 months. Swansea council urged witnesses to contact police.

A spokesperson said: "The damage caused to the building is extensive but we have now made the area safe.

"The fire is being treated as suspicious by South Wales Police and we'd urge anyone who has information to get in touch with them.

"We'd also ask the public to be vigilant and to contact the police if they see suspicious activity in any of our parks."

The kiosk was next to the Grade II listed wooden Swiss Cottage, built in 1826, which itself was severely damaged by a fire in September 2010.

Another fire the following month badly damaged Singleton Park's 19th Century Veranda House, used for storage by Swansea's parks department.
