Police appeal after pedal cyclist and lorry collide between Carmarthen and St Clears

A cyclist has suffered serious injuries in a road crash with a lorry in Carmarthenshire.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision on the A40 between Carmarthen and St Clears in Carmarthenshire on Wednesday.

A spokesperson said the man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The incident occurred at around 17:10 BST on the westbound carriageway near the Tenby Road filling station.

The Wales air ambulance arrived on scene at 17:38 and started treating the man, in his 40s, before flying him to the specialist neurology unit at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

On-board paramedic Chris Connor said: "With serious injuries such as head trauma the patient needs to receive specialist medical care as quickly as possible.

"We were able to provide fast medical attention and deliver the patient to a specialist unit where he will receive attention for his injuries."

Dyfed-Powys Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the force's roads policing unit on 101.
