There were long tailbacks on the eastbound M4 in south Wales after a lorry carrying 60 calves caught fire near Port Talbot.

One lane of the motorway was closed while fire crews tackled the blaze just after 16:00 GMT on Wednesday, but it reopened within the hour.

There are no reports of any casualties and all cattle were transferred safely.

At one point traffic was queuing for about five miles between junction 40 at the A4107 and junction 38 at the A48.

South Wales Police said the lorry had pulled over on to the hard shoulder of the M4 with officers in attendance.

The congestion had cleared by 18:30 GMT.
