Morgan Advanced Materials may cut 120 staff at Swansea site

A company which makes electrical components is looking to halve the workforce at its Swansea plant.

Morgan Advanced Materials employs around 220 people at the site but its plans could see 100 to 120 staff being axed.

The job cuts would be carried out over the next 18 months or so.

The company, which has plants around the world, said in a statement it was proposing to restructure the group's electrical materials business.

Consultation about the job cuts has started with employee representatives.

"The company will do all it can to minimise the impact on employees potentially who may be affected by this proposal and will aim to avoid compulsory redundancies wherever possible," said the firm.

Morgan Advanced Materials in Swansea manufactures electrical components for industrial, rail and energy markets, particularly the renewable energy sector.
