Birds are being killed and injured by discarded or lost fishing tackle, warns the RSPCA.

It says officers have recently dealt with a buzzard tangled in a tree in Neath.

Meanwhile, a swan was found with a hook through its neck at Bosherston Lakes in Pembrokeshire.

RSPCA inspector Neill Manley said the incident involving the buzzard last Friday "highlights the problems with fishing litter".

It was taken to Gower Bird Hospital to recover.

"We urge people to clean up their litter behind them in a responsible manner," he said.
