Patients of a Carmarthenshire GP surgery set to close in July will be registered with another practice nearby, health bosses have said.

Harbour View surgery in Burry Port will shut on 31 July when its GP retires.

Concerns had been raised that people would have to travel further afield to see a doctor.

But Hywel Dda University Health Board said most patients will be registered to the nearby Meddygfa Tywyn Bach practice.

Jill Paterson, from the health board, said: "On behalf of Hywel Dda, I apologise for any anxiety that may have been caused by the delay in communicating the arrangements for the future of GP services in the Burry Port area.

"The next step for us is to allocate the patients of Harbour View Surgery to their nearest GP practice and support these practices in maintaining the high standards of care currently provided."

The majority of patients who live in the Burry Port area will be able to use Meddygfa Tywyn Bach and all patients would receive a letter with more information "in the next few weeks", Ms Paterson added.
