Abergwili's contingency flood defences put to the test

Natural Resources Wales takes part in the exercise

Contingency flood defences aimed at protecting almost 150 properties in a Carmarthenshire village have been put through their paces

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) tested new demountable flood defences in Abergwili on Sunday.

They have been designed to be put up quickly if the main flood defences fail.

Abergwili Road was closed for four hours while the exercise was carried out.

Simone Eade, from NRW, said flooding can "devastate homes and businesses which is why defending against them is one of our top priorities".

She added: "While we put a lot of resources into flood defence we have to be prepared if they ever fail."
